I agree with Alan Brinkley’s statement about the United States being an “Unfinished Nation.” Although it is true that the United States has made great efforts in making itself as a finished nation by sustaining a firmly constructed government system and technological advances, there are some other aspects that certainly identify the United States as an “Unfinished Nation,” such as racism and unfinished conflicts. The United States has tried to solve the problem based on racism, however, in fact, it is still hard to say that people of different races are treated equally. Moreover, it seems that the conflicts in the United States are still in progress, such as wars. For example, 9/11 and the war between the U.S. and Iraq are some of the major conflicts that identify the United States as an unfinished nation. Conflicts wouldn’t have occurred if the United States were a finished nation. Therefore, I believe that the United States is still developing in some aspects and will remain as an unfinished nation.
