bugam goder says
I was sued in by a debt collector once (rental company said I “stained the linoleum”; insurance company paid and then said I had to reimburse; they then sold the debt to a debt collector). What I did was simple: I showed up for the pre-hearings and the trial, and looked prepared. That particular debt collector was relying on most people not showing up (at which point the debt collector wins by default). They were not actually prepared to go to trial at all, so they folded as soon as they saw I was in the court house. Recommendation: if you owe money to the original people, and are in a position to, pay them. Don’t acknowledge anything to these debt collectors, but *do* demand a copy of all their paperwork (that we you’ll know what information they have).
